Definitely friendly for solos! My server was Amy I'm in town for a conference. I asked my hotel the best local restaurants. For French, they recommended La Gare. When I arrived for my reservation, I was immediately seated at my beautiful table. Service was fast, polite and informative. This is a 45 year family owned restaurant. All meals come with soup and salad. The soup was a bit subtle in flavor. Salad was fresh, however, the oil to vinegar mix was too heavy on oil. It maybe my taste buds. It was a bit too subtle for me. Beef Wellington: My dad's a Texan. There's only one way to eat steak - garlic, salt n pepper rub, seared and medium rare. So a pastry around the steak is a little weird. I'm not sold on the pastry and will try again. The sauce was divine - what you expect from the French. Scooped up every bit. The cook was a perfect medium rare (As you can see). The veggies was cooked to perfection and the potatoes so crisp. They have a wide selection of desserts. I came for the cherry jubilee. I had it once. The order was for two people and they accommodated me. They cooked it in front of me and it didn't disappoint. I inhaled the dessert. I recommend whole heartedly. And Amy just informed me of the other gastronomic experiences to have here.

This is the best restaurant I've ever been to. Great lamb, great wine, great servers. When I used to imagine what the best dining experience would be like, this went above that. In one sitting I met the host, our two servers (one was in training), and the chef. Very warm upscale dining environment. Anyone stating otherwise is wrong. 6/5 stars

Went to La Gare for their feature menu offered during restaurant week (Feb 24 - Mar 2, 2025) . One of the best priced dinner's available through Sonoma County restaurant week. It was a great way to showcase their menu with a couple dishes and get a four course meal for $40 ( Carrot soup, Caesar salad, King Salmon or Beef Bourguignon, and Black Forest Cake or Crème Brûlée. They have a great wine / champagne list and splurged a little to add a bottle. They kept the champagne on ice in the back and came by to top off the glass routinely. The restaurant is cozy and was completely full on the Saturday night visited. A long standing restaurant with loyal customers- everyone enjoying their meal with friends and family. The service was excellent throughout, even the greeting when checking in. Great French food - lovely evening.

Hidden in plain sight, this "gem" of a restaurant had a fantastic menu that was eclipsed only by the spectacular service we experienced. I've been visiting this area for decades and had not previously taken the time to stop in and taste what La Gare had to offer. Now I realize how much opportunity has been wasted by not eating here. I won't make that mistake again. Check out La Gare at your next opportunity. My only suggestion...add some sauternes to the menu and feature a sparkling wine from neighboring Stonemason Cellars (a true Methode Champenois).

We had heard of this renowned French restaurant for many years and my husband had been there 30 years ago. But when we saw it highly rated on Check Please!, we decided to visit during a stay in Santa Rosa. We stayed at the nearby Courtyard by Marriott so walked less than 5 minutes to a 7 pm dinner reservation. They were jam packed with a line out the door and asked us to return at 7:15. So we went for a drink at Grossman's since they have no on site bar at the restaurant. We were seated promptly at 7:15 and they acknowledged my birthday. We brought a special Camus cab sauv and they charge a $25/corkage. Many people were eating escargot and other French specialties. The entrees come with soup and salad included. We started with a hearty vegetable soup which had carroty flavor and was quite good. Next up was a basic green salad with a tart vinegarette and tomato. It was very average and I didn't finish it all. My husband asked for crispy sweetbreads, served with rice and veggies ($40). He said it was ok but not the best he's had. I ordered the prawns bordelaise which were very good but super rich ($42). Served with the same rice and veggies. They served a complimentary chocolate mousse for my birthday, and we both ordered a Ware's port ($14/each). No rush to leave, which was nice. The service was excellent and atmosphere was nice but a bit old school. It's family run so very well loved in the Santa Rosa community.

Service was absolutely amazing. Very accommodating for my dog. Changed the propane tank when it ran out. Beef was braised beautifully. The new York steak was cooked perfectly. i was expecting a little more depth from the béarnaise sauce. The crème Brûlée was amazing, but the cheesecake was bit Rich enough. Overall a fantastic dinner. Will definitely be coming back to give the sauce a second chance. Plus, the dog was pampered, so we have to.

Excellent food! Excellent service! Great ambiance! This is my favorite restaurant in the Santa Rosa area. It has been around for years. Their French inspired food is still the best! I always look forward to their Beef Wellington, followed by Chocolate Mousse. This time their included soup was a great Minestrone! My wife usually has the escargot in garlic and parsley butter. We share the fresh bread dipped in the escargot butter. They also have some good champagne selections like Schramsberg and Veuve Clicquot. They also have old favorites like Chateaubriand for two, and Cherries/Berries Flambee. The crafted wood furniture, scenic artwork, alphorn, and Swiss cowbells all contribute wonderfully to the French-Swiss ambiance. All on all, my favorite pick for classic French dining. Another excellent dinner at La Gare this year! We had Beef bourguignon (Beef Burgundy) and Wild Alaskan Salmon.

We went for our anniversary and the staff were gracious, to the point of getting congratulations from many staff many times throughout the night. We ordered the salmon and steak and no notes, just great. I leave four stars because our waiter kept spilling wine on the table and on the escargot plate we had for appetizer so our table was partially soaked. And also we had reserved an outdoor table but that night no one sat outside so we didn't want to be alone in the alley way and they sat is inside, which was very considerate, but it was a tight squeeze of a table, right by where the bussers and waiters come in and out of.

So, my hubby and I were seated in the main dining room. There were heart balloons on the chairs and other Valentines Day decorations. Ambiance was romantic. Inside feels like you're in a chateau in the Swiss Alps. As soon as we sat down, this hostess took our coats and we had water and bread on the table. Delicious sourdough rolls with chilled butter. Our server was Katie and she was fantastic! Service was stellar. So attentive yet really well paced. We sat for 2.5 hours and enjoyed every minute. The busses were super friendly and kept the service moving properly. Loved the linens and the nice silverware. They had a nice wine list. But we both had the Non-Alcoholic Best Day Brewing West Coast IPA. Our shared appetizer was the Escargot. There were 6 snails with large beautiful shells. They were piping hot, sitting in a garlic herb butter sauce. They were so good. I could have had another plate. Our entrees come with soup and salad. The soup that evening was the Potato Leek Soup. But we also wanted to have the French Onion Soup, so our server said for us to have both. The Potato Leek Soup was fresh with little diced potatoes and chopped leeks. It was creamy but light. Nice soup. The French Onion Soup came out very hot. It was picture perfect. Solid top of melted gruyere cheese sprinkled with herbs and a slice of baguette just underneath the surface. When you dig your spoon in, steam comes out and reveals the broth, lots of caramelized onions and more bread. It had a super flavorful broth. There were plenty of onions, herbs and soft bread soaking up all that yummy broth. Next came a simple small side salad with lettuce, tomato and shredded carrots with a nice vinaigrette. My husband ordered the Boeuf Bourguignon and this was the best dish of the night. It was the one of the nights specials as well as a Calamari Steak. The beef was so tender and sat alongside mashed potatoes that were to die for and some asparagus and carrots. Vegetables were cooked perfectly. It was so good. I ordered the Filet Sole Almondine. The fish was flaky and cooked perfectly. The almonds and bacon added a nice texture. A squirt of lemon added to lemon butter sauce. It came with rice, asparagus and carrots. The veggies were cooked perfectly too. It was nice and light. We couldn't finish either entree. We got to go containers we were so full. But our busses said we had to get the dessert special...Key Lime Pie. My husband doesnt loke pie so he ordered the Wild Blackberry and Cabernet Sorbet. It came with two large scoops. Simple, creamy and a good flavor. Key Lime Pie was the winner. Excellent advice. Best key lime pie ever. It was on a Graham cracker crust. It had toasted coconut and lime slices on the plate. Perfect way to end the meal along with a Cappuchino. The presentation of the food is simple and classic french. It feels like the dishes are coming out of a home kitchen. I want to go back for the tableside Caesar salad and the filet medallions.
